Course description

In this one-day course Victoria will introduce you to Excel PivotTables – a quick way to explore, summarise and present your data. You will leave with skills that you can implement to save time and to make your analysis and reporting more flexible, easily updateable and accurate.

This is a practical course suitable for those who have experience of working with data in Excel but who are keen to learn more to enhance their output and work more efficiently. No prior knowledge of PivotTables is assumed. Experience of using functions and cell references in formulas would be advantageous, but not essential.

Victoria has over 15 years’ experience of working within the charity sector and all data examples used in the course are based around a fundraising / charity marketing context.

The course will be delivered via Microsoft Teams, and attendees will need access to Excel (Windows) and it would be advantageous to have two screens so that you can follow along with the demonstrations.  Sample data and all course material will be provided by the course trainer.

This is a practical course for anyone seeking to elevate their Excel skills using Pivot Tables to discover trends and patterns within their fundraising data. It is assumed that attendees can confidently input values, format cells, and construct basic formulas.

Creating and Refreshing PivotTables

PivotTables are a powerful feature within Excel that allow summarisation of large datasets with ease. In this session Victoria will introduce you to PivotTables, showing you how to summarise and ask questions of your data, easily and quickly.  You will explore the advantages for creating PivotTables from Range Names and Tables. You will also look at how to format your PivotTables and apply filters to explore your data further, as well as how to create new formulas within the PivotTable and calculate new statistics.

Creating Interactive and Visual Dashboards using PivotTables

Using PivotTables as a data source can be an easy way to making your reports easily updateable and interactive. In this session you will learn how to reference PivotTable data using the GETPIVOTDATA formula and making them efficient using Cell References. You will also learn how to link Slicers to multiple PivotTables and create impressive interactive dashboards.

Power Query and Power Pivot

Data Preparation is an important stage within any piece of data analysis, and it can often take longer to prepare your data for analysis than to actually perform your analysis! In this session, Victoria will demonstrate how using Power Query and the Power Pivot add in can simplify this and automate your analysis.
